How to Remove Babylon From Google Chrome Search

I launched the Google Chrome Web Browser, and found something irritating. The Address Bar or Omnibox of Chrome is a search engine in itself. I entered my query there only to find the result page of Babylon. Surprised. I rechecked, and the result was same.

Search engine in the address bar is one of the beautiful improvements of web browsing. It saves lots of time. Babylon was creating problems there. Later I realized that it has also hijacked my Home Page. I realized that Babylon has changed its business plan and now become a dreaded browser hijacker malware.

Luckily, it doesn't take long for me to get rid of this nasty malware. If it has also hijacked your Chrome and you are wondering how to remove it, consider using following simple steps.

How to Disable Babylon from Chrome

Well it is not tough to bring back your favorite search engine in the address bar of Chrome.

- Click the wrench icon on the upper right corner of the Chrome, and you can find tools.

- You can find the ‘Settings’ page. You will find many options in the form or radio buttons. Here you are required to make changes on three items - On StartUp, Appearance, and Search

- On StartUp: There are three radio buttons. The third and last one is Open a specific page or…. With highlighted Set Pages. Click on Set Pages and enter the URL of your favorite search engine like Google. You are also required to delete Babylon (if it is there). Click OK.

- Appearance: Click on Show Home Button. It will show you the current URL of your Home Page. If you find Babylon there, change that with your preferred Home Page URL.

- Search: Click on the first box (a drop down menu and select your favorite search engine). Now click on the second box namely Manage Search Engines…. A window will come before you. It has two sections. Check closely the upper half (Default Search Engine). You need to select Google, or any other search engine as you wish. Remove Babylon or any other third party suspicious programs from the default list. Click OK at the bottom of the page.

You are also required to check Extension. Delete any extension that you have not downloaded.

What if it doesn't Work?

About steps have worked for me and it took around two minutes for me to completely remove Babylon from my computer.

Many users have complained that they couldn’t get rid of Babylon through these steps. They are not so lucky as Babylon has overtaken not only the settings of their browsers, but also computer. If you are also one among them, go through following guidelines:

1. Open Control Panel and check installed programs. More often than not, you will find Babylon there. Needless to say, you are required to uninstall it.

2. Check Program Files of your computer for Babylon.

3. If it is still not working, you need to go ahead and scan your computer for Malware. There are some good anti-malware software both paid and free. Use anyone of them and remove it and all other programs that are a threat to your personal and sensitive information.

Understanding the problem

Babylon feeds itself through Google Adsense. If you search anything though it, the result page displayed will have Adsense advertisements. Clicking on those advertisements will make Babylon richer as Google share revenue with its partners.

To earn money, Babylon is indulging in this unethical practice. Usually, the ‘Babylon Bug’ enters your system when you download something from an unsecured website. It is important to download anything only from a verified and trusted website. Malware like Babylon enters your computer without taking any permission and hence they are a real threat to your sensitive information like internet passwords and financial records. Remove them immediately.

I've removed by uninstalling programs and by trying the ways you mentioned. Every time I clear it out of the start-up menu, enter in google, hit okay, and test it out, my google option is removed and babylon is back. Any other ideas? It's like they've caught on and found a new way to stick!

Oh.My.God! It worked! It actually worked! On Startup trick did the trick! Babylon was still lodged in there pretty tight. Thank you SOO much!

Whoever invented Babylon search needs to be locked up and have the keys thrown away! Same for the people working for that malicious company!

Szaszy 10 months ago

I did everything that everyone else tried and even restarting my computer along with cussing a whole bunch, I found another way to get rid of it:

Start menu - Right click on Google Chrome - Internet Options - Search (Under General Tab, third one down) - click 'Settings' - A menu will open up for 'Manage Add-ons' - Click on Google (or whatever website you want it to open up to) - Click 'Set as default' (bottom right side of the blue box)

Now you can actually remove Babylon there to by clicking on it and click 'Remove' (bottom right side of blue box)

I have reset my homepage to Google half a dozen times. And it keeps coming back. When I go to where you "set pages", it shows on Google. I close it and refresh and I get Babylon. I did a search in the registry and deleted all references it listed. Doesn't matter. Any other suggestions?

thanks

Crystal 11 months ago

***I FOUND IT!!!***

So this stupid Babylon search page was "glued" to my Google Chrome page at startup. I removed it from my Programs List, and I even removed it from my search engine settings, but it STILL came up every time.

But I realized I had skipped a step ----- On the top right "wrench" icon on Chrome Settings, go to the "Start Up" options and choose the third button where it says "Open a specific page or set of pages", then click SET PAGES link. There should be the hidden Babylon Search engine, and remove the little sucker!

Haven't a problem since then :)

Michael 11 months ago

Or delete all the urls and use the "New Tab" as a homepage.

Michael 11 months ago

Along with all he said I still had it, what fixed it fianlly for me was in chrome settings (wrench top right corner) under the "on start up" click the "open a specific page.." click on set pages and erase the babylon url. Then type in googles url. Happy surfing 8)

Kat 11 months ago

Thank you for posting this. It's irritating when suddenly it becomes Babylon when all these time I have been getting results from Google.

Thanks again!

Make Google search engine default, that is the only option..... I re-checked it on my browser, and it is working fine...

If nothing is working just uninstall chrome and install it again... it will take five minutes, but the new chrome will be free of any irritating babylons....

panama 11 months ago

It didn't work for me either...i changed it to google and when i click on google chrome icon to open it it opens with babylon...do you have any idea how to change it?

PRanj profile image

PRanj 11 months ago from New Delhi Hub Author

Please recheck your settings... through wrench icon... Check whether babylon is still there as the preferred search engine for the address bar..... Ideally, it should have been removed...
